One of the few priorities in many people's lives are their job. If you haven't already, you will soon encounter a work experience at some point that will make you feel like the world just isn't working in your favor. Peter Gibbons from Office Space portrays that exact attitude of an "I hate everything about my job" kind of person. You can't really blame him though. He does spend more than 90% of his time "sitting in little cubicles staring at computer screens all day". Even though most of the characters in this movie are miserable with their job, I mostly relate to Peter (at least the "new" Peter after his life-changing meeting with a hypnotherapist). He decided to stand up for himself and make his feelings clear through a simple, yet honest explanation: "It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care". As individuals, we all need some form of motivation, whether intrinsic or extrinsic. His job was a mere "problem of motivation", in fact, his only motivation was "not to be hassled" by the eight different people constantly reminding him of his mistakes, and for the fear of losing his job. I think people put up with a lot of things that they don't need to in order to have a stable job or lifestyle, but will stability really make you feel fulfilled in life?
Are you like Peter?
